Such swords belong to the accouterments of a ‘Dasho’, the worldly ‘chief’ of a large monastery fortress or ‘Dzong’ in Bhutan. The present ‘Dasho’ sword has a large, straight, single-edged blade. The hilt displays the typical, retracted shape. It is made of fine, plaited white metal wire and trimmed with red-dyed plaited leather bands. The hilt pommel is also carefully decorated. The sword has a wooden sheath, which is cloaked in white metal. With a short carrying strap made of leather. All of the metal on this sword (aside from the blade) is white metal (no silver). Length: 85 cm (sword in sheath).
