A sitting Buddha figure, made of cast bronze, accentuated with black (and some red) lacquer and entirely gilded. Buddha sits in the ‘earth-touching gesture’ (‘Bhumisparsa Mudra’), in lavish court robes, with bountiful jewellery and a tall winged crown, on a two-tiered plinth. The casting core of the figure is present inside at the bottom. A very beautiful, charming object that, apart from some colour scuffing due to age, displays no damage.
Height: 25 cm; width: 13 cm.
Style: Rattanakosin or Bangkok style, 19th century. (ME)
