Valerio Adami *
(born in Bologna in 1935)
Interno con figura di donna e poltrona, 1968/69, signed on the reverse Adami “Interno con figura di donna e poltrona” 31.10.68 25.9.69, acrylic on canvas, 97 x 130 cm, framed
Provenance:
Galleria Schwarz, Milan (label on the reverse)
L. Spagnoli Collection, Italy
Private Collection, Italy
Valerio Adami immediately focused on the language of comic books with reference to the French artist Hervé Télémaque. A complex formal vocabulary characterized by fragmentation of the image and anti-naturalistic colors applied in large expanses is combined with banal, everyday images (interiors, bathrooms and hotel rooms) that do not, however, prove depersonalized but rather laden with autobiographic references. These themes are often combined with tributes to European literary and artistic figures as in Henry Matisse che lavora a un quaderno di disegni (1966).
