for Maria Josepha of Austria, wife of August III. bearing the coat-of-arms of Saxon Prince Electors (“Kurfürstlich-Sächsischem Wappen”), porcelain, lid and body with drapery, narrow and wide gilt edging, open-work lattice- and chain decoration, wide bands with delicately painted gilt leafy tendrils, the lid with a crown on cushion, the facing side and reverse side with armorial cartouches, supported by 2 Cupids, small and large cartouches polychromed landscapes and vedutas with gallant figures, narrow panels with purple painted lake views, the inside of the lid with moulded polychrome "indianische" flowering and leafy branches, gilt interior, the handle in the form of sculpted female busts with plumes, the facing side and reverse side each with 2 Cupids, holding white drapery and floral garlands, tiered gilt base with rocailles heightened with gilt and volute feet, height: 19 cm, length: 24 cm, opening with 2 small chips, Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords 2nd half 19th cent., model no. B 136, former no. 148, design Johann Joachim Kändler 1738 (Ru)

„…commissioned by King August III., Johann Joachim Kändler, in 1738, created for Queen “Maria Josepha” a so-called “Drüselkästchen”, a container for small threads used in embroidery etc. He gave it the form of a small, slightly squat lidded tureen with elaborate Baroque ornamentation, encompassed by boys holding drapery, coat-of-arms, garlands, as well as female heads decorated with plumes, while the lid shows two more boys holding the royal crown."
