Front portion of a Chinese robe, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

China, c. 115 x 119 cm, 18th /19th century, without sleeves and collar, preserved only as fragments, the two parts once belonged to the same imperial dress, gold and silk embroidery in cross-stitch technique, typical pattern of a Manchu coat with dragons, several groups of “treasures”, clouds, wave and mountain motifs, the depiction of the massive head of the central dragon, the sea monsters and the rare foo dogs indicate the piece’s old age, slight traces of wear, sewn on silk.
