A “Transition Rug”, designed by Kosmos Project (Ewa Bochen & Maciej Jelski), - Design

Poland, 2014, manufactured by Polish craftsmen, hand-dyed Polish wool, leather label: Kosmos Project and logotype, 130 x 180 cm. (DRAX)

This rug from the “Transition” collection consists of a double-layered cloth hand-woven with Polish wool by traditional craftsman. Traditionally, this type of cloth comes in two colours, while here a third colour – galactic purple – has been added for the warp. The pattern on the inner side is primitive and connected to nature, whereas the outer pattern is linked to human civilisation, robots, and “Star Wars”. The basic colour is “holy green”, with a pattern in moss green.
The idea behind the project was to create a very traditional rug illustrating the evolution of our civilisation from ancient rituals to sophisticated achievements.
