A rare old coal container called ‘mangal’. Cast from brass using the ‘waste mould’ technique, the individual parts are riveted into a flat decagonal hearth. The individual parts, the legs and the mid-pieces are decorated above with birds sitting across from one another. Leaf and floral tendrils in relief embellish the individual parts together with diagonally crossed fencing on top and underneath. On all sides, the coal container stands on short, curved legs and contains a tin insert inside. One of legs, with the upper bird pair, is broken. Otherwise no damage. Diameter: c. 48 cm (on the outside). 19th century or earlier. (ME)
