Mixed lot (3 items): A pair of bangles of the Tekke Turkmen, made of silver, silver-gilt. From Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan. And a silver bracelet. From East Africa, South Arabia or India. - Tribal Art - Africa

1: A pair (2 items) of beautiful ‘four-fold’ arm cuffs, as worn by the Tekke-Turkmen women in the tri-national corner of Turkmenistan, Iran and Northwestern Afghanistan. Executed to the letter in the famed style of the Tekke Turkmen: silver, fourfold one underneath the other. Polished red glass stones set in each of the rows. The outer surfaces engraved in silver in the typical curved patterns of the Tekke with fire gilding in the patterns in between all surfaces. A perfect pair of Tekke bangles with visibly good, old traces of usage. Without damage! Height: each 10.2 cm; Diameter: each 7.5 cm x 6.5 cm (in the upper section).
2: A bangle made of silver. This special type of silver bracelets was first produced in South Arabia (probably in Oman) and from there, following the ancient dhow trade route (with sail boats) towards East Africa, spread from Iran to India. The present example of this type is especially beautifully crafted using a variety of patterns, lines, arches, dots etc., which are also engraved on the covering plate over the semi-spherical ends. Soldiered silver wire bands, twisted and bent, provide additional embellishment. With visible, very old, evidence of use. A minor indent along the inner side and a small piece of silver wire missing. Otherwise no damage! Diameter: 5 cm (on the inside); 9 cm x 9.5 cm (on the outside). All three objects: 19th century to early 20th century. (ME)
