A stool of the Shona (or Mashona) in Zimbabwe. Made from a piece of hard, heavy wood, with a round seat and stand, black and brown in colour. The central support, between the seat and the stand is round, split in the middle and shaped as an openwork of triangular and rhomboid forms. Continuously carved from the two surfaces is a handle (hand-grip). A small piece missing from the seat and the stand respectively, a tear in the centre pillar. Good, old usage patina. Height: 29 cm; diameter: 29.5 cm x 27.5 cm (seat). First half of the 20th century. (ME)
