Mixed lot (2 items), Northern Cameroon, tribes: Kirdi, Matakam, Kapsiki etc.: two types of loincloth, as worn by women from tribes in the Mandara mountains in Northern Cameroon. - Tribal Art - Africa

1: A carefully crafted, triangular loin cloth made from leather. On the front side the leather is decorated with four rows of embossed lines and hatched triangles and trimmed with two zigzag bands. 32 narrow, knotted leather straps decorated with threaded, blue glass beads hang from the top. Below the loincloth is held in place by two horizontal rows of iron beads. Height: 21.5 cm; width: 16.5 cm (below).
2: another type of leather loin cloth from the Mandara mountains in Northern Cameroon, perhaps intended for a young girl. Five cast lancet-shaped, long brass objects with eyelets and adorned with a plaited pattern are threaded onto a carrying cord with two rows of brass beads. Height: 6.5 cm to 7 cm (the 5 larger brass parts). Both objects: First half of the 20th century. (ME)
