The pictorial experience is by its nature tied to the perception of space through the sensations of “colour“ (light) and “form“ (drawing and composition), which convey to the observer the spatial characteristics as well as the formal and chromatic physiognomy of the image. The character of the whole is determined by the quality of the parts which constitute it, and its meaning reveales itself in the waus of the making (pictorial), by the way the above-mentioned “qualities“ are made perceptible. […] In painting what has a significant role is the material or pictorial impasto, the variable intensity of colour at the surface, the “touch“ or brush stroke, the internal structure and the optical weight of the surface, of course the com position, and in short, everything that contributes to the “make-up“ of a picture, not just as a technique but as a combination of expressive means conveying a meaning in themselves.
