Photo certificate signed by the artist, Padua, 18 September 2011
Provenance:
European Private Collection
Exhibited:
Brescia, Museo di Santa Giulia, Arte Cinetica, 23 May – 8 June 2014, exh. cat. p. 10 with ill.
Literature:
Marina Apollonio. Retrospective exhibition, 10. A. M. ART, Milan, 10 January – 11 April 2015, exh. cat. p. 98 with ill.
Note:
The present work is characterized by the lack of the black background that is common to the majority of Apollonio “Dinamiche”.
In 1965, Apollonio embarked on research on visual communication and perception, exemplified by her early “Circular dynamics” pieces. After adopting a simple shape such as the circle, the artist studied the possible structural devices capable of activating it, achieving the maximum result with the maximum economy of means. Clearly, this artwork does not elicit a personal, symbolic interpretation from the viewer; Apollonio’s goal is to achieve a very precise communicative function on a strictly visual level, in opposition to any expressive form of abstraction. With her “Circular dynamics” the artist gives life to structures that become dynamic, fluctuating spaces in the viewer’s perception.
