she is seated semi-naked on a base with trees crowned with garland of vine leaves, her right hand leaning on a leafy stem, her left hiding a quiver, the Cupid standing before him begs her for it, biscuit porcelain, to reverse of tree trunk impressed B. Bernstamm, Paris 1908, word mark SEVRES from the 3rd Republic and S 1928 DN, DN for ‘pâte dure nouvelle’, alongside G. B., spherical stepped base, height 68 cm, Ø 33 cm, rim to base with small chipped and small restored parts, to the underside, short firing crack, Sèvres, France, 1928, model by 1908 (Ru)
Lit.: Thieme-Becker, III, p. 471, Leopold Bernhard Bernstamm, born Riga 20.4.1859, sculptor, active in Paris as director of the Musée Grevin. At first, pupil of Prof. Jensen in St Petersburg, from 1873 attended the academy there, 1884 in Florence as pupil of Rivalti, 1885 in Paris as pupil of Mercier, important portrait painter. In 1906 his monument to the playwright Ed. Pailleron in Monceau Park in Paris was unveiled.
