Mercury, as the god of tradesmen, sits on a tied parcel, holding a caduceus in his left hand, whilst writing a thoughtful motto on the white panel, which is fixed to a broken column shaft, it originally read: ‘Der errungene Sieg über die türkische Flotte bei Tschesme’ [The successful victory over the Turkish fleet at Chesma], now poorly legible, his right foot on a turban as a symbol of victory, behind which turquoise flag, to one side sits a putto on a treasure chest holding a money bag in his hands, porcelain, polychrome and gilt group, rocky base with gilt rims and encircling gilt band and rosettes relief, height 27.5 cm, some restoration, Meissen, underglaze blue sword mark, 2nd half of 19th cent., model no. 19, former nos 68, 70, painter no. 14, model by Michel Victor Acier, circa 1774 (Ru)
