Lot No. 132

Verneh,

Verneh, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

South Caucasus, c. 196 x 147 cm, mid-19th century, although heavily worn, the present weave still emanates considerable charm, both because of the homogeneous colour arrangement with fascinating yellow as background colour, and because of the archaic patterns consisting of “T” motifs and disparate scattered designs as well as three naive four-legged figures, made of two parts with original warp ends, heavy signs of wear in the pattern, some exposed warp threads and repairs, edge damage, the front faded. (MA)

Lit.: Taher Sabahi, Battenberg Antiquitäten-Kataloge, Orientteppiche, volume 5: Kelims-Kaukasische Flachgewebe.
