East Turkestan, c. 273 x 173 cm, 19th century, very rare collector’s carpet on cotton foundation with a beige central field reduced to its essential elements, the tiger is pink with typical striped pattern and is depicted in the act of moving towards the bottom, sketched branches and Chinese characters translating roughly as follows: “the tiger in the woods”, slightly low pile in some parts, overall in good condition.
