An illustrated leaf from a Bhagavadgita manuscript . India, Rajasthan, Bikaner or Jaipur, circa 1755
Ink, colours and gilt on paper. Nagari script, the miniature framed by four lines of script above and below, verso 21 lines and pagination. Very finely painted, Krishna steers a chariot pulled by two horses, in which Arjuna is seated. Some areas of text spotted. Margins damaged, partly backed; yellowing alongside mat. Image: 9.7 x 9.4 cm; sheet: 23.7 x 15.5 cm. (BA)
