A Tatami stool, designed and manufactured by PRINZpod,

A Tatami stool, designed and manufactured by PRINZpod, - Design

Austria, 2011, tatami mat, plywood, wooden ring, adhesive binder, brass hinges, signed and dated: PRINZgau 2011 and two signets, box: height 46 cm, 29 x 29 cm, stool: height 40 cm, 24.5 x 25 cm. (DRAX)

One of two different stool models. The Tatami stool comes in a specially constructed box with hinged sides. Thanks to the seat, a piece of tatami mat is transformed here into a Western stool.

“This stool hides deep down on the bottom rung of design, but ranks high among objects lending themselves to daily use.
Sitting, storing, amassing, thinking, expanding one’s own range. Sitting on one’s haunches has been a subject since we have risen to an upright position, and if the chair is too high, the stool will mostly be just right.
An integral part of everyday life, it plays a crucial role in all kinds of routines, moves along with us through all the rooms and niches of houses, apartments, and cottages, out into the garden or onto the patio, down to the basement, up to the attic, and into the ‘designer’s best room’. It is the most patient housemate, accepts everyone, refuses no book or object, is flexible and always ready to rediscover itself in its new identity and begin a new existence.” (PRINZpod)
