This Hindu bronze statuette shows the monkey god Hanuman standing in prayer position on a rounded plinth with an angular base. He is being protected by two Naga snakes. Hanuman was a powerful general commanding an army of monkeys. At the request of god Rama, Hanuman and his army freed Rama’s beloved, the beautiful Sita, from the claws of the evil demon Ravana. A special feature of this piece: cast in two metals, brass and copper, using the ‘waste mould’ technique. A piece with very good, ‘softly’ worn usage patina. No damage. H: 10 cm. 18th century. (ME)
