A typical Arabian ‘Wahabite Jambiya’ (curved dagger or short sword), with slightly curved, double-edged blade decoratively engraved on both sides with lines and volutes (for a more detailed explanation cf. cat. no. 141).The present 'Wahabite Jambiya' has a bivalve hilt made of wood (possibly horn). The hilt itself is embellished by two rosettes with spheres, decorated silver bands and silver sheet. The wooden sheath is bound in leather with many ornamental silver rivets and is nicely ‘shod’ in engraved silver. The sheath keeps its original attachment to a leather belt featuring leather embroidery. Overall, an unusually old object. No appreciable damage. L: 59 cm (the dagger alone), 61 cm (dagger in sheath), 96 cm (belt). 19th century or earlier. (ME)
