1: A high lidded jug made of copper, originally tinned. It has a long, thin spout, with a strainer at its end, a lid and a handle. Without a base. Used to heat water for tea. Embossed on the walls, lid and spout and featuring all-round repoussé decorations with lines, rhombs, triangles, medallions, with engraved leaves and geometric patterns. Embellished in addition with noticeable nubs in rows are the cast handle and the bridge between the neck and the spout. An object with good, old usage patina and minor, limited age-related damage on the jug (sideways or underneath), as well as on the spout — all age-related damage soldered over. Engraved in Arabic numbers on the outside underneath the neck of the jug is the date ‘1247’ (Islamic Hijri calendar), which, in Western chronology, is the year ‘1831’. H: 34 cm, W: 25 cm.
2: A tall and large lidded jug made of copper, originally tinned. With a handle and a short, round stand. Used for hand-washing before and after meals. With a big, open mouth in the form of a floral chalice. Engraved underneath the mouth’s front rim are two fish. The bulbous body of the jug is otherwise covered in its entirety in very fine, minutely executed flowers and leafy tendrils — laid out in symmetrical stretches and vertical stripes. A piece with visibly old usage patina (see handle and upper rim). No appreciable damage. H: 34 cm, W: 25 cm. 19th century. (ME)
