Gurunsi, Burkina Faso, Ghana: An old ivory bangle with original repairs.
A visibly old bangle made of ivory, of flat, but wide type of the Gurunsi, who live in southern Burkina Faso and in northern Ghana. The ivory with heavy signs of craquelure and breaks shows elaborate, earlier original repairs: by means of riveted aluminium stripes (in part with punched dot decoration), with an iron clasp and with a hard, light brown paste, as well as with iron tacks in the narrow border of the bracelet. An old, charming object. DM: 14 cm x 12.5 cm (on the outside); 7.6 cm x 6.4 cm (on the inside); 1.2 cm thick. Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century. (ME) ASA
