We are grateful to Giancarlo Sestieri for confirming the attribution after examining the painting in the original.

The present painting is a typical landscape of Jan Frans van Bloemen, called L’Orizzonte, documented in Rome from 1688, soon after he relocated from France along with his older brother Pieter.

The present painting was influenced by van Bloemen´s frequent trips to the countryside of Lazio, and here the artist has represented the typical countryside near Viterbo. The painting bears a strong resemblance to Landscape with a fountain and the Italian landscape in The Hermitage, Saint Petersburg.
