Lubienicki is one of the few Polish artists who gained recognition in late 17th century Northern Europe, which was culturally dominated by the Netherlands. Around 1675 he and his brother, Teodor, were apprenticed to Gerard de Lairesse. He painted primarily portraits, but also produced genre-like interiors in the manner of Adriaen van Ostade and Richard Brakenburgh that were greatly appreciated by his contemporaries.
