Paolo Antonio Barbieri

Paolo Antonio Barbieri - Old Master Paintings

(Cento 1603–1649)
Still Life with Fowl, Cheese and a Wine Jug
oil on canvas, 86 x 87 cm, framed

Provenance:
Private collection, Florence

Literature:
A. Colombi Ferretti, in: La natura morta in Italia, ed. by F. Zeri, Milan, 1989, vol. I, pp. 455, 459, fig. 548 (as Paolo Antonio Barbieri);
G. Bocchi, in: G. Bocchi, Naturaliter. Nuovi contributi alla natura morta in Italia settentrionale e Toscana tra XVII e XVIII secolo, Casalmaggiore, 1998, pp. 239/40 (as relating to works by Giacomo Nani)

Still Life with Fowl, Cheese and a Wine Jug is the only picture in this series that shows a glimpse of the sky. The composition also differs from the other pictures in its greater refinement of the objects depicted, such as wine glasses, a saltcellar, and an earthenware jug. The arrangement is dominated by a large chunk of hard cheese, which appears on a piece of paper in the lower left corner. A huge sausage, a wicker bottle, and two wild ducks are arranged above it and to its right.

20.10.2015 - 18:00

Estimate:
EUR 50,000.- to EUR 70,000.-
