Important Italian late Empire seating group, - Works of Art (Furniture, Sculpture, Glass and porcelain)

Genoa ca. 1840, design attributed to Pelagio Pelagi (1775 - 1860), executed presumably by Enrico Peters. In softwood, carved with floral ornament and gryphons, painted gold. The group comprises: a canapé (width ca. 160 cm), two armchairs and two chairs. These have turned and carved legs with acanthus leaf ornament, tapering fluted side supports and a bow ornament on the slightly domed backrests. One of the armchairs is marked verso on the backrest with the following in Latin: "HIC SEDIT VMBERTUS A SABAVDIA PRINCEPS HEREDITARIUS IX KAL. OCT. A. MCMXXVI REGALI COHONESTANS PRAESENTIA SOLLEMNEM MONVMENTI DEDICATIONEM QVOD SVIS IN BELLO VITA FVNCTIS CIVITAS AQVENSIS EREXIT". With lavish high quality upholstery. Professionally restored condition. (DOC)
