Tabriz, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Northwest Persia (Iran), c. 208 x 154 cm, about 1920, pictorial carpet depicting the ruins of the Kabud (Blue) Mosque in Tabriz; commissioned by Chatun Dschan Begun in 1465, the building was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake in 1779; the carpet is in good condition, with detailed colours and a broad perspective, the upper front features a transverse border with inscribed cartouches, velcro strips for hanging are attached to the upper backside.
