Aydin kilim, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Southwest Anatolia (Turkey), c. 363 x 150 cm, end of the 18th/beginning of the 19th century, especially sought after among collectors are early Turkish flatweaves with monumental extensions in the guise of ram’s horns, the present two-piece light-ground specimen in slit technique with brocading elements displays six hexagons highlighted by light blue contour bands, hooked motifs are scattered throughout the field, especially noteworthy are the mystical staggered rhombi decorated with swastikas arranged around three hexagons, reciprocal crenellation along the long sides, excellent state of preservation in keeping with its age, some repairs, one end has been almost completely replaced.
