Karadja gallery, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Northwest Persia (Iran), c. 360 x 110 cm, about 1850, magnificent old runner from the Karadagh region on wool foundation with superb colour, wool and pattern quality, on sürmey-coloured background rows of medallions with the characteristic white braid and white eagle motif from the region, several four-legged figures and Talish-like rosettes were inserted as decorative motifs, James D. Burns deals with the medallion and four cartouches with arrows in greater detail, the red border is referred to as so-called bellflower border, a blue kilim end is still preserved in the upper section, partly deep pile, numerous bare areas resulting from moth damage are in need of professional repair.
