Southwest Caucasus, c. 230 x 172 cm about 1870, solid village rug in large format with thick, deep pile wool, the white prayer field is surrounded by a green border, the step at the foot marks the entrance to paradise, in the centre a red cartouche surrounded by Karachov-like, hooked chequered patterns, extremely rare for hand knotted carpets is the elibelinde (“hands on the hips”) motif magnificently executed in the gable field, elegant old colours, silky, shiny wool and a well-preserved old pattern repertoire make the present item especially valuable, original lower kilim end and sides, short sides on the back secured with fabric border, only slight repairs and a small damage to the upper middle.
