Letter by the 14 year-old Crown Prince to privy councillor Leopoldine Nischer (Liebe Nono"), to whom he offers condolences on the death of a son. "... Dein armer Sohn war so ein braver Officier and noch so jung, Deinen armen Mann wird es auch sehr angegriffen haben. Schade, daß ich Dich nicht sehen kann, da Dein Sohn an Blattern gestorben ist, ich hätte Dich sonst gerne mündlich getröstet; auch für uns waren das traurige Tage, die arme Urmama war für uns alle so gut, and gerade diesen Winter war ich so viel with ihr. Zwei so große Verluste in kaum einem Jahre die arme Groß mama and die arme Urgroßmama ..." The grandmother Archduchess Sophie born Princess von Bayern had died on 28. V. 1872. Her sister, the "Urmama" Empress Karoline (Auguste), the fourth wife of Emperor Franz I. died on 9. II. 1873.
