A table, Bernhard Hausegger*,
Austria, 2016, used wooden table, completely covered with polyester, length approx. 320 cm, width approx. 98 cm, height approx.79 cm.
A unique object.
“Bernhard Hausegger attends to discarded pieces of furniture he finds or which are given to him.
Analysing the formal language of these found objects, he looks for possible variations. He treats these objects with polyester, a material linked to the omnipotent fantasies of architects of the 1960s and 1970s now ridiculed – complete and holistic solutions for living that seemed to be feasible and lend themselves to mass production at the same time, and which held the promise of a better and more carefree life. Each individual object is elaborately handmade. The material of polyester allows Hausegger to remove originally indispensable supporting joints and modify the furniture’s volumes.
However, the original always persists and remains recognisable at the core. These minor alterations open up new perspectives and viewpoints.”
