Rousseau’s admonition to go “Back to Nature!” also becomes evident in the period’s Meissen porcelain production and the large number of rustic scenes, in particular gardener figures. From 1750 onward, Johann Joachim Kändler and his co-workers modelled an increasing number of gardener figures, most of them paired children later arranged into entire series of child gardeners and vintners.
