Von Ettingshausen studied medicine and botany in Vienna and in 1850 began to investigate fossil plant deposits in Austria; in 1854, he became professor of botany and the natural history of medicine at Vienna’s Josephs Academy; in 1870 he is made a professor in Graz; in his publications he likes to use the nature print technique.
