A censer and small vase
China, Qing dynasty
Both bronze with dark patina with silver thread inlays, inscribed to base, ‘Shi Sou’; a) a censer mounted on three feet, ornamented with the Three Friends of the Winter: pine, bamboo and plum trees, with bats, magpies and deer as symbols of luck and long life. Two handles in the form of elephants’ heads with ring handles. Traces of use. 18th/19th century. Wooden cover not original. Height: 9.5 cm. b) small vase, ornamented with bamboo and rocks. Inscription: ‘Qiu zhu ping an, yan nian yi shou’ (The winter bamboo brings peace, multiplies the years and offers long life). Traces of use. 17th/18th century. Height: 11 cm. (BA)
