The ‘Nove Tendencije’ exhibition took place in Zagreb in 1961 and represented 25 artists from Yugoslavia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Argentina and Brazil. This exhibition marked the starting point of the international art movement known as ‘New Tendencies’. Far from the Western European art market, young artists got together, pursuing a new art in the tradition of the avant-garde movements of the first half of the century, aiming to produce an immediate effect on man. In this respect, the participation of the viewer was an important goal for their works that also did justice to a modern, changing worldview that excluded all certainty. [...] Among the acolytes of the New Tendencies were also the members of various groups, such as Zero and Effekt (Germany), Grav (France), Gruppo N and Gruppo T (Italy) and the former Exat 51 group (Yugoslavia). (from: Die Neuen Tendenzen, Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt) In the last Zagreb exhibition in 1973, conceptual art was also represented – it was thus that in 1973 Radomir Damnjanovic-Damnjan participated in the exhibition, ‘Tendencije 5 / Tendencies 5’ (Constructive Visual Research, Computer Visual Research, Conceptual Art).
