Of all the ‘roles’ that art has played over the centuries – sacred, religious, mythical, celebratory, initiatory, political, recreational – the one concerned with the ‘creation of objects’ is perhaps one of a very few that are still vigorously active [...].
Therefore, today’s artistic object will be neither a ‘thing’ nor a ‘fetish’; rather, it will preserve aesthetic autonomy as the only justification of its survival.
