Among the Abelam such hornbills are suspended (with the head hanging down) from the lower cross-beam of the painted gable façade of the men's house.
This example of a hornbill is worked in three-dimensional fashion. This is an unusual occurrence. The majority are flat. Good patina. (Possibly 2nd overpainting? A few old cracks.
