1: Indonesia, probably Java: 24 objects made of silver, which, judging from their very similar decorations of tight leaf and floral tendrils, all originate from the same workshop of an Indonesian silversmith. Silver, mostly punched from '800' or ‘sterling'. This is silver of the ‘old table silver’ category (80% silver and 20% copper). Technique: cast, embossed and engraved.
One large teapot, with a spout in the form of a duck’s head with a moveable beak; 4 round bowls in various sizes, one of them on 3 spherical legs; 3 oval bowls in various sizes, one of them on 4 spherical legs and one with a handle; 2 candlesticks; 2 ashtrays; 2 small, high vessels, one with, one without lid; one round sugar bowl with lid and 2 handles; one cigarette case with wooden inset; one glass vessel with decorated silver lid and enveloped with embossed silver; one picture frame which can be stood up, one vessel lid with a recess; and 5 small objects made of silver (powder box, bottle opener etc.).
2: Four silver objects, originating from a different workshop judging from their make and decorations: one pair of sugar tongs, two cake slices and a tea strainer. Their decorations or handles depict Javanese shadow puppet figures (‘wayang kulit’). 3: Two objects depicting the face of the guardian spirit ‘Kirtimukha’ using silver filigree: a ladies’ mirror and a matchbox holder.
4: Two objects made of silver, probably originating from Thailand: a round, high, lidded box. The lid and exterior walls are blackened (niello?). The black surfaces on top have a female dancer, the sides two river landscapes with a temple engraved finely into the silver. On the inside: Wooden inlay.
5: Indonesia, Java: A small, broad lidded box, bronze cast. With fine leafy tendril decorations.
All 33 objects: c. first third of the 20th century; the weight of all silver objects together (without glass or wooden inlays): c. 4800 grams. (ME)
