Polychrome tapestries or hangings, such as the present one, are produced by nomadic women in the dry, partly desert-like regions of India (Rajasthan), South Pakistan (Sindh) and South Afghanistan.
To this end, parts of old textiles, e.g. from old women’s clothes, bags, carpets, are newly sewn together and embroidered in so-called ‘patchwork technique’. With small mirror plates and plenty of embroidery, as is also typical of women’s dresses in this nomadic region.
