Mixed lot (4 items): Two pairs of silver earrings. From Iran or Afghanistan (Yomut Turkmens), as well as from northern India.
1: A pair of earrings of the Yomut Turkmens, from the northeast corner of Persia, on and above the border with Afghanistan. Each with dragon heads on the left and right, in the middle a ‘mountain scene’, densely covered with circle-dot appliqués made of gilt silver. One earring displays a covered, round cabochon cut carnelian in the centre, the other a red glass stone. On the outer rim, each with a decorative row of silver in spherical shapes. Diameter: each c. 7 cm.
2: A pair of silver earrings from northern India, federal state of of Himachal Pradesh. Made of silver, each with a round ornamental platter consisting of spiraling milled silver wire, with a small floral motif in the middle. Half of each is wrapped in silver wire. Diameter: each c. 8 cm.
Both pairs of earrings: First half of the 20th century or earlier. (ME)
