1: A typical Arabian ‘Wahabite Jambiya’ (curved dagger or shortsword) with a long, double-edged iron blade with middle ridge (for a more detailed description of this type of weapon see cat. no. 176). The wooden hilt and sheath of the present curved dagger are elaborately decorated with engraved, partly embossed sheet metal and wire made of silver alloy, and covered with copper. The sheath shows remains of a leather belt with attached polychrome leather and metal bands and embossed geometric patterns (the buckle is missing). L: 53 cm.
2: An oriental metal beaker, also called ‘nomadic beaker’. Probably milled from iron, reduced in size towards the bottom, conically shaped and with decorations covering the entire external side: with palmette bands in the upper and lower sections, engraved leafy tendrils, inlaid and punched brass surfaces creating both niches of pointed arches and mottoes in Arabic script. Accentuated with red and black enamel.
First half of the 20th century; H: 11 cm, diameter: 8 cm (in the upper section). (ME)
