Mixed lot (2 items): Saudi Arabia and Sudan: An Arabian curved dagger, also called ‘Wahabite Jambiya’, and an upper arm dagger from Sudan. Both with their own sheath. - Tribal Art

1: A ‘Wahabite Jambiya’ in typical form. With a long, slightly curved and smooth iron blade. The hilt consists of dark brown horn and is decorated with silver, silver alloy and copper. With three roses, bands, silver wire and hemispheres. Reinforced with an engraved copper band on the back. The wooden sheath is decorated with silver bands, hemispheres and a rose made of silver wire with a mounted carnelian stone, and enveloped with cut, partly engraved sheet metal pieces made of silver alloy, brass and iron. The round lower finial is made of copper. An old original repair to the lower section of the sheath (soldered). Between the 19th and the early 20th centuries; L: 56 cm.
2: A small upper arm dagger of the Bedja, Hadendoa or Barabra from Sudan. With a short, wide, locally forged iron blade. The hilt is carved from hard, brown wood and dyed black; its round flat end is decorated with three incised lines. The sheath is decoratively enveloped in sand-coloured, red-and-black dyed leather. The carrying strap (for the upper arm) consists of rolled fabric tightly wrapped in a thin, red leather band.
First half of the 20th century; L: c. 15 cm. (ME)
