A typical prestige axe of the Songye, in southeastern Congo. The blade of forged iron is decorated with nineteen holes, fine engravings and four free hanging rings (two made of iron, two of copper). The wooden handle is enveloped (sewn) in lizard skin (dragon) and decorated with decorative nails made of brass.
