Nupe, Nigeria: An ivory trumpet, with beautiful, old patina. In perfect condition.
A side-blown trumpet of the Nupe, South Nigeria. Made of ivory, with a rectangular mouthpiece on the outside. The length of the instrument is carved in seven angular facets, whilst its lower end is decorated with all-round bands of geometric lines, symbols and zigzag lines in relief. Side-blown horns, such as the present one, were used on the occasion of the public appearance of kings, chiefs and high dignitaries.
An old ceremonial instrument with beautiful patina darkened to a honey coloured shade. In perfect condition, no damage.
