- the frame of the Kirk racing bicycle is cast from a magnesium alloy
- magnesium is much lighter than aluminium, but also highly inflammable and prone to corrosion
- Frank Kirk first presented his invention at the New York Cycle Show in May 1986
- volume of orders placed was high
- he had a struggle to fulfil them
- when the new factory was finally finished, it burned down from magnesium dust spontaneously combusting the Kirk Precisions that did make it to the customer had the tendency for the gearshift lever mounts or seat stay bridges to break
- which makes Kirk Precision rare collectors' item
- this model is number 1426
- back wheel rim is defect
