- this 1925 Retro-Direct features a twin-gear mechanism
- by switching to pedalling backwards a lower gear is engaged for steep hills - a simple alternative to the hub gear changers that dominated the market at the time
- Hirondelle created the first mass-produced front derailleur or "double-clanger" in the late 1920s
- a Retro-Direct was field tested in the 2007 Paris-Brest-Paris endurance race over the 1,200 km with one remedy to be reported: the pedals unscrewed themselves several times - this model has welded pedals o avoid this
