Fragment of an embroidered orphrey with images of saints, Italy, beginning of the 16th century, c. 115 x 78 cm (incl. linen), red silk velvet decorated with a pattern of leaves as part of a liturgical vestment, the subsequently applied orphrey in silk and silver embroidery is significantly older and its large size does not match the chasuble, the embroidery is still trimmed at both ends with two entirely preserved niches, the images of saints were attached in appliqué technique as ‘ready-made items’ on an already embroidered foundation, sewn on linen.
