(Europe), c. 340 x 259 cm, mid-20th century, highly decorative, large needlework with petit point embroidery executed in silk on cotton foundation, this ‘gros point’ hand embroidery has been widely used for centuries and was also strongly promoted in Austria under Empress Maria Theresa, excellent condition without signs of wear in the pattern, entirely backed with linen on the reverse.
