The present tondo is characterised by the unmistakable style of the Lorraine painter François Nomé, better known in Naples under the name Monsù Desiderio. Imaginary views are a hallmark of his œuvre and were created throughout his career. The architectural details of the view at hand resemble those in Joab tue Amas (private collection; cf. Monsù Desiderio; un fantastique architectural au XVIIe siècle, ed. M. Sary, M. R. Nappi, Woippy 2004, p 80-81).
